M5000 Server How to do a cold Replacement

Cold replacement is the act of powering off the server and disconnecting input power. This is normally required for safety when the inside of the server is accessed.

Power off procedure:

1. Notify users that the server is being powered off.
2. Back up the system files and data to tape, if necessary.
3. Log in to the XSCF Shell and type the poweroff command.

XSCF>poweroff -a

The following actions occur when the poweroff command is used:
■ The Oracle Solaris OS shuts down cleanly.
■ The server powers off to Standby mode .

once the new HW installed issue the below command to verify:

XSCF>showhardconf


Go to OK prompt

console -d 0

ok: show-devs : to see the HW devices
